Indianapolis is a sports town -- it always seems to be jammed with athletes and fans of some kind. Home to the world-famous Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400, it has several professional teams, as well as a couple of museums devoted exclusively to sports. In fact, the city once dubbed "Naptown" and "India-No-Place" has used its passion for sports to revitalize itself.
More than 65% of the U.S. population lives within 700 miles of the city, and 30% live within an eight-hour drive. Indianapolis' largest employers include Eli Lilly, Allison Transmission, Allison Engine/Rolls Royce, Conseco and Ameritech.
Indianapolis boasts four diverse strengths in the manufacturing, distribution, retail and service sectors. Major manufacturing industries include fabricated metals, industry machinery and equipment, printing and publishing, transportation equipment, and chemical and allied products, including pharmaceuticals.
